Pura Penataran Sasih

Pura Penataran Sasih, also known as the Moon Temple, is a beautiful temple with many ancient stone statues. Pura Penataran Sasih in Bali served the purpose of one the most important places of worship during the time of the great Balinese kingdoms. Various temple festivals are held in the 9th Balinese month at the Pura Penataran Sasih in Bali.

The temple derived its name from an ancient bronze kettledrum which is now kept in the inner chamber. The kettledrum is about 2 meters in length; and it is locally known as the Moon of Pejeng, as one of the few relics of the Balinese Bronze Age. That highly valued and ornate gong called The Moon of Pejeng is regarded as Indonesia's most important Bronze-Age antique. The gong is in a shape of an hourglass and is beautifully engraved. The antiquity is supposedly dated about 300 BC around the time of the Bronze Age in Indonesia.
